Basically, there are three types of indicators based on the Donabedian Categorization (Donabedian 1978): 1. Structure: describes the organization, facilities, and staffing. It often presents aspects that can be improved with increased investments; 2. Process: describes the care process between the caregiver and the patient. It usually depends on which aspects of care are easier to change; 3. Result: describes the result, often at the patient level. Ultimately, it is the most important indicator. The first step in evaluating ICU performance is to define the indicators that should be monitored. Second, ensure the collection and storage in a clinical database. There are several available.
