The growing demand for admissions to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) directly challenges the operational efficiency of hospitals. In this scenario, smart bed management comes as a strategic solution that combines both technological innovation and the optimization of installed capacity, with direct impacts on reducing the length of stay and increasing bed turnover.
\nThe Epimed Monitor ICU system, powered by the Performance module, delivers clinical intelligence and predictive management based on the largest ICUs database in the world. By allowing beds to be available earlier, there is a contribution to reducing operating costs and the permission for faster admission of critically ill clinical or surgical patients.
\nBelow, we highlight four benefits of data intelligence-based bed management:<\/p>\n

1. Real-time mapping of occupancy rate<\/strong>
\nEpimed Monitor ICU allows real-time monitoring of ICU occupancy rates, offering immediate visibility into usage levels, bed availability, and emerging demand. This built-in operational display provides greater agility in decision-making regarding the release and allocation of beds, a crucial factor for efficient and safe turnover.<\/p>\n

2. Benchmarking and comparative analysis<\/strong>
\nWith access to consolidated data from hundreds of ICUs, managers can compare key indicators such as occupancy rate, length of stay (LOS), and severity-adjusted standardized mortality rate (SMR) with those of other similar institutions.
\nThis benchmarking practice allows us to identify opportunities for improvement, establish true-to-life goals, and adopt standards of excellence aligned with best practices in intensive care medicine.<\/p>\n

3. Predictive indicators and efficiency matrices<\/strong>
\nThe incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) into bed management represents a substantial advance. Currently, we are able to estimate, at the time of admission, the likely length of stay.
\nThe Performance module provides this predictive intelligence to the ICU environment, through indicators such as the standardized resource use rate (SRU), standardized length of stay rate (SLSR), and SMR, allowing the construction of efficiency matrices.
\nThese tools can identify ICUs with inadequate resource use, whether underutilized or overloaded, and support strategic decisions to improve the allocation and use of available resources.<\/p>\n
