In a recent review, we identified more than 50 publications in indexed scientific journals, demonstrating that the Epimed Monitor ICU system is not only the largest quality management system for ICUs globally but also the largest database, with more than 6 million critically ill patients.<\/p>\n<p>The system is also used in academic initiatives to develop research that deepens knowledge in intensive care medicine. Below, we will discuss the aspects of the Epimed Monitor system that make it attractive for clinical research, as well as the types of trials that can be carried out.<\/p>\n<p>The essential premise for clinical research is to establish a robust database for subsequent analysis. In this sense, Epimed Monitor is a solid structured database that allows the broad characterization of the clinical profile (&#8220;case-mix&#8221;), resource use, and outcomes of ICU patients.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of ICUs that use additional modules, such as checklist, NAS, Patient Safety, and Epimed Monitor Infection Control system (CCIH) systems for infection control, healthcare processes, workload, and ICU-acquired weakness are also possible to describe.<\/p>\n<p>Several types of clinical trials can be carried out using the Epimed Monitor system base (Figure 1). Trials can be single-center \u2014 that is, only one hospital or ICU carries out the trial \u2014 or multicenter. In this case, the fact that the database used by all Epimed Monitor ICUs is the same throughout the world makes the process much easier.<\/p>\n<p>Observational cohort trials are the most frequently carried out.
