In healthcare, however, not just any data will do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Data must be structured, consistent and representative of real clinical scenarios, encompassing different patient profiles, epidemiological contexts and clinical variables.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Yet many healthcare organizations still operate with fragmented systems, disconnected information and limited standardization. These challenges directly affect the quality of the data available to train and support AI models.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Building reliable healthcare AI requires continuous work to organize and validate clinical information. This has been a key lesson throughout our journey. At Epimed, this process has been underway since 2008, alongside the healthcare professionals who use Epimed Monitor every day in their institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In 2015, the Epimed Monitor database became the world&#8217;s largest repository of critically ill patient data. One year later, it also began supporting the development of AI models that more closely reflected the realities faced by healthcare teams, a milestone made possible because the database already captured years of real-world clinical practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2. Validation Is as Important as Development<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">An AI model may perform exceptionally well in testing and still prove ineffective in practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">It is essential to determine whether the information makes clinical sense, functions effectively outside controlled environments and supports decision-making without creating additional burden for healthcare teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Achieving this requires continuous monitoring, active participation from healthcare professionals and ongoing evaluation of outcomes. Although less visible than model development itself, this process is equally important.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">At Epimed, physicians, nurses and researchers are involved from the very beginning.
