An article published in Critical Care Medicine discloses the relevance of the National ICU Registries for clinical research and quality improvement

National ICU Registries for clinical research

The article “National ICU Registries as Facilitators of Clinical Research and Quality Improvement” was recently published in Critical Care Medicine, the leading scientific journal dedicated to critical healthcare. The trial was co-authored by Epimed’s scientific director, Jorge Salluh, M.D., and our international partners Amanda Quintairos, M.D., and Gaston Burghi, M.D., among other experts.

For this research, the LOGIC (Linking of Global Intensive Care) and JIPAD (Japanese Intensive care Patient Database) databases were used to prove how the creation of ICU registries provides greater knowledge about epidemiology and outcomes in ICUs, contributing to the improving healthcare delivery and serving as a source for scientific research.

Furthermore, the article demonstrates that the creation of registries allows locally collected data to be used in performance assessments with risk-adjusted measures, so that these outcomes can be compared through benchmarking with other ICUs.

In a shared online platform, LOGIC gathers some of the biggest national registries around the world, is available in more than 13 countries (such as Brazil, Uruguay, Netherlands, India, Australia, France, etc.), with more than 2,000 ICUs monitored, adding up to more than 7 million admissions since the beginning of the project.
